DS-301 (also known as Dyson Security 301) is a popular product among urban security personnel for its light weight, ergonomics and performance. Prior to its adoption, the DS-301 was refered to as Project Featherlight due to the weapon's advertised extreme lightness and mobility.

Features[]

As stated, the DS-301 boasts a featherlight design, weighing merely 2.5 kilograms when fully loaded. This is a product of Dyson Dynamics' new form of high-strength, heat resistant polymer in an effort reduce as much metal as possible while preventing thermal deformation from the weapon's operation.

To further contribute to this aspect, the weapon operates on Radial-delayed blowback, a concept pioneered by the CMMG Banshee. This along with the usage of constant recoil gave way to a much more comfortable and controllable shooting experience, albeit at the cost of fire rate as the DS-301 only offers a moderate cyclic rate of 660 rounds per minute.

One significant advantage to its contemporaries was a real-time ammo counter stationed right behind the top rail, allowing users to constantly check their ammo capacity while aiming. This however, was a double-edged sword as elaborated in later sections.

Replacing the M4?[]

In 2030, the M4 was finally relieved of its duty after decades of serving and the Military was quick on their ways to find a proper replacement. Among the contestants was the DS-301 (or appropriately referred to as Project Featherlight). The weapon performed successfully in mobility tests due to its lightweight design and scored among the tops in shot groupings at medium distances, mostly by utilizing constant recoil operation.

However, despite its ability to withstand thermal deformation (i.e being able to dump nearly 800 rounds constantly before experiencing major malfunctions), the weapon still couldn't hold up in the reliability test as evident by its struggle against mud, sand and freezing environments. Another factor that served as a double-edged sword against the DS-301 was the real-time ammo counter as the device posed a concern about simplicity and accessibility for common infantries.

With a modest fire rate of 660 rounds per minute, along with proprietary 6.5x62mm cartridge among other issues, the DS-301 lost to the SIG MCX as the chosen replacement for the M4 by the military.

Even though having lost the competition, the DS-301 found itself in the hands of many urban private contractors and security armed forces.

6.5x62mm Dyson Telescoped[]

While not being the first of its kind, the 6.5x62mm has a much more robust construction than other telescoped cartridges in its time, mostly benefitting from Dyson Dynamic's unique polymer composition. While still hardly reusable after one shot, the casing can be easily collected and recycled to make new ones.

Unlike the 5.56mm NATO, 6.5mm Dyson is not designed with high velocity in mind but rather the opposite with heavy projectiles travelling at medium velocity to prevent overpenetration.

Despite travelling at merely 700m/s, the 6.5mm Dyson delivers a 9-gram projectile covered in a soft metal jacket (likely Aluminium alloys) with a hardened Tungsten tip to ensure the projectile breaking apart quickly after penetrating a hard surface (i.e body armors).
