As the title of this page suggests, this is the complete history of the wiki (so far). If you have anything you would like to add relating to the history of the wiki, feel free to add a comment down below and it will be noted as soon as possible.
Chapter 1: Origins (2010 - 2012)
Origins of the Wiki
- On November 16, 2010, a Wikia user named Foxtrot12 had an idea to create a new wiki about the Pimp My Gun flash game
- The idea of the wiki was to show off different creations that people have made on the game
- Named it the Pimp My Gun Creations Wiki
- The first page created on the wiki is Foxtrot12's Customized M4 Variants
The First Ambassadors
- On November 21, 2010, a user named EliteMaster117 became the first other person to join the wiki
- His first creation was the N72 Assault Rifle
- He also holds the distinction of posting the first creation involving shapework, with the Type 21 HPSC Grenade
- Wiki activity halted from December 2010 until March 2011, when Mickyb116 posted his first creation, the M50 Chemical Launcher
- After March 2011, the wiki became more and more active, with users such as Cheesehead999 and Poop copter posting a significant amount of pictures
Foxtrot’s Disappearance
- In July 2011, Foxtrot posted what would be his final creation, a custom L85 variant
- After this, he became inactive for unknown reasons
- Because he is the founder of the wiki, he still remains an administrator
- Despite his disappearance, the wiki carried on and continued to gain new users
The First Companies
- A new idea was presented onto the wiki: companies
- PSM1’s AWF gmbH and Strife2816’s ReMag Armaments are the two oldest companies on the wiki
- This idea influenced other people on the wiki; today it is the most common way of relating one weapon to another to keep them organized
Chapter 2: The Reverend Era (2012 - 2014)
The Beginning of a New Era
- In September 2012, a new user named DeathBYkory32 (now known as ReverendSpecialK) joined the wiki
- His first creation was the M-2 Avenger, a simple bolt-action rifle
- He would unknowingly become one of the most prominent and famous users of the wiki
- Around the same time, another would-be prominent user named InfiniteXCLUSIV joined the wiki
- He gained popularity with his company, Valkyrie Industries, which featured unique creations for the era
The Rise of KWSI and Supercheeze247
- In September 2012, ReverendSpecialK created his now extremely popular company: Korinth Weapon Systems International, or KWSI
- His first weapons for the company included the K-52 LMG, the KSP-14 carbine, the K-40 assault rifle, and the K-82 Whisper Carbine
- Alongside the founding of KWSI, a new user named Supercheeze247 started his now-famous company, Darkstar Weapons Systems
- Supercheeze's most notable creations include the M3 Shotgun, the M-276 Rifle, the BA-308 sniper rifle, and the M56 Battle Rifle
- His company became one of the best-known companies of the wiki, alongside KWSI and Valkyrie Industries
Shapework vs. Paint
- While shapeworking is a default feature of PMG, Reverend introduced a new type of editing by using MS Paint
- However, a new user named DoomWrath slammed this action as “a technique used for noobs”
- He reintroduced shapework and started to show off his designs, which were clearly superior to the weapons already on the wiki
- He also hated preset designs, such as Supercheeze247's HK417 PDW System, and gave paragraph-long descriptions explaining why preset designs are a disgrace
- Users such as Reverend, InfiniteXCLUSIV, and Cod Monan countered him for being too critical
The Wiki’s First Competition
- In October 2012, Reverend set a milestone by creating the M1911 Contest, the first known competition on the wiki
- However, the contest only contained one person, which was Reverend himself
- Therefore, the M1911 Contest was quickly forgotten; however, competitions became an extremely popular tradition later on in the wiki’s history
A New Controversial User
- While the war between shapework and paint commenced, a new user brought shapework to the lead
- Chariblock, who created Steiner Weapons in November 2012, became renowned for his skillfully-created weapons
- Although many of his weapons had similar designs, specifically in terms of color schemes and bullpup layouts, his designs placed him high in terms of skill
- However, he started to condemn preset designs in a similar manner to DoomWrath, which caused his reputation to decline
- There is also some question as to whether Chariblock is a plagiarist, as his HMP-50 pistol design is a potentially stolen design
- In retrospect, he has been labeled an anarchist due to themes present on some of his creations by Daniel Phoenix
Camouflaging
- On December 2012, Reverend introduced a new PMG technique to the wiki
- Camouflaging brought a lead to MS Paint during its war against shapework, as it is not possible to camouflage a PMG creation without the use of MS Paint
- Some users from the wiki's more modern era have used camouflaging, such as Kiera 5.56 with the ONI Rogue A2
Beginning of the Decline
- By late 2013, Supercheeze247 and InfiniteXCLUSIV started becoming inactive from the wiki
- Reverend stopped activity on Korinth Weapon Systems International and created a new company named Smith & Gordon, although it would not be as popular or well-known as KWSI
- Around the same time, DoomWrath returned to the wiki to show off new weapons involving shapework
- Still clearly superior to the weapons on the wiki, he started to put MS Paint into defeat in the wiki's civil war
- He also continued to criticize in great length, such as the XMR-500 Bullpup AMR by a user named Storm-X, and harshly criticized its crude shapework and impracticality
- Storm-X countered back with a paragraph stating DoomWrath does not belong on the wiki, as the people who use the wiki are much less serious than elitists like DoomWrath
The End of the Reverend Era
- Reverend started to become more and more inactive, and by January 2014, he left the wiki
- His last contributions were the S&G 56 LMG, the S&G 96 assault rifle, and the Modular Assault Rifle, which was Reverend’s first creation that wasn’t part of KWSI or S&G
- With his withdrawal, the civil war between paint and shapes technically ended with a victory for shapework, as it continued to be used widespread in the aftermath
- However, preset weapons are still very common today, and is the first step for a wiki user to become more experienced and familiar with shapework
- Despite stopping in January 2014, Reverend has occasionally contributed to the wiki since then
- Reverend gave insight on the wiki’s M240 replacement competition in 2015 and made a recreation of the vz. 33 bolt-action rifle using MS Paint
Chapter 3: The Deim Era (2014 - 2015)
A New Start to the Wiki
- On October 2014, after 8 months of the wiki being in near-silence, a new user named UV00 joined the wiki
- UV00 posted his first weapon, the Barrett M98 MCM, and later became the founder of his now popular company, NS Arms
- He would later become one of the main administrators of the wiki
- Around the same time, Kyle Layton (Billy), joined the wiki with the now-defunct company Layton Rifleworks
- The wiki’s reawakening was confirmed when another new user named Deimantassk joined the wiki
- He launched his new company, DeimTec, and became the lead administrator of the wiki
Popularity Regained
- In November 2014, Deim launched the first competition since the Reverend era
- This new competition called for a scenario in which the Ukrainian Armed Forces were looking for a new service rifle; these competitions are known as “replacement competitions”
- Users would post their own creations on the competition page, and the winner would be declared by popular vote
- While it was small, the competition had a lasting impact on the wiki, as the wiki spawned five more competitions with similar scenarios
- It also boosted UV00's popularity, as his creation, the ANSh-15 “Red Titan”, was a well-made creation that included a detailed description, leading him to be the competition winner
- Competitions from that point forward became more and more refined, with new rules added such as caliber types, minimum magazine capacity, weapon length, and must be linked to a manufacturer
Popularity Confirmed
- In February 2015, 27spartanranger (Rick, now known as ArizonaRanger27), joined the wiki with the ISSR-51 rifle, and would be renowned for his famous company, Valhalla Arms Company (VAC)
- He would go on to win the second replacement competition, a replacement for the US military's M107 anti-materiel rifle, with his HAMR Mk. 1 anti-materiel rifle
- In May 2015, during the M107 replacement competition, Daniel Phoenix joined the wiki with the XM63 anti-materiel rifle, and in time would be renowned for his company, Phoenix Precision Firearms
- He would become the wiki’s lead administrator and became well-known right away for his incredibly detailed and realistic descriptions and notoriously strict criticism of other creations
- The M107 replacement competition also led to another notable new user, CbKITTcar, who became well-known for his company, Dronestrike Arms
- In July 2015, Steaming TOM (Evan), and TheGeneralB (Brian), would also join the wiki and became regular contributors with their companies, Clicker Defense and Rickard Firearms & Defense, respectively
- It was also around this time when one of the wiki’s earliest contributors, TheUntouchableEric, rejoined the wiki with several new creations as part of his new company, Mountain Western Weapons Company
- In addition, SmilingWolf's Zombie Apocalypse Arsenal page received renewed attention from the influx of new users, and remains one of the longest-running active pages on the wiki to this day
Deim’s Retirement
- On October 2015, Deim announced on his profile page that he would be stepping down from the wiki's lead administrator role
- However, he did not retire completely from the wiki at the time, as he still contributed to the wiki somewhat frequently afterwards
- After his announcement for any volunteers, Daniel Phoenix offered to take the role and was chosen to become Deim's successor
Chapter 4: The Daniel Phoenix Era (July 2015 - 2019)
The Final Replacement Competition
- The final replacement-style weapon competition, the US military M240 replacement, took place from December 2015 to January 2016
- The reason replacement competitions halted was controversial; Deim did not want any more replacement competitions whereas Daniel Phoenix wanted to continue them, which caused hostility between them
- However, it was not the final competition altogether, as the 1st Perpetual Competition of the PMG Wiki was announced two months later
A Wave of New Users
- Between late 2015 to mid-2016, the wiki experienced an influx of new users and a surge in activity
- Users such as InfinityX6, A-strike, Abiniz, Odin Arms (now known as Carbon98), Kirt11, Accurafire (now known as Ethan Scotts), 66mazda (Vincent), and TheMCGamer (now known as FrostRC), started out with simple or primitive creations at first, but have seen a drastic improvement in skill over time
- It was also around this time when members from the beginning of the Daniel Phoenix era started to experiment more with shapework, most notably 27spartanranger, Steaming TOM, TheGeneralB, UV00, and Daniel himself
- Some new users joined the wiki with more skill than others, such as Ramos Defense Industries, Kiera 5.56, and ScorpionAI
The 1st Perpetual Competition
- In March 2016, two months after the discontinuation of replacement-style competitions, the 1st Perpetual Competition launched
- For each cycle of the competition is a theme; when a person wins that cycle, that person would be able to choose what the theme should be for the next cycle
- After that cycle, it is then placed in the archive section
- Pistols were the first theme, and resulted in UV00 winning the first round with his creation, the P2016 Merdeka
- The competition ended in October 2019 after 27 phases due to several delays in between phases and significantly lowered popularity in the competition over time
Daniel vs. Deim
- Although Daniel Phoenix and Deim have occasionally disagreed in the past, tensions would unexpectedly reach a new level
- In late April 2016, Daniel agreed to let 27spartanranger (Rick) become an administrator due to his high activity level at the time
- However, Deim staunchly disagreed with Daniel’s decision, and hostility immediately started between them
- During that time, Rick and Daniel’s admin rights were taken away, although Deim did not claim any responsibility
- In its aftermath, Deim made Rick a discussions moderator instead, and Daniel used his remaining administrator rights to return the rest of his powers
- When the debate was renewed by Rick in September 2016, Daniel rejected the proposal this time for fear that Deim would take away Daniel’s administrator rights
- Kyle Layton created a page dedicated to becoming an admin called the Admin Rights Application, but this page was deleted by Deim soon after (it would be restored after its deletion)
- After Deim was banned semi-permanently, Rick had been given admin rights and became a content moderator
Odin vs. Acme
- In early 2016, a user known as SumaturanGuns (formerly known and still referred to as Acme) posted the MP811 SMG
- However, as with all of Acme’s creations, it was heavily criticized, primarily by Daniel Phoenix and Carbon98 (Odin)
- However, most likely due to his young age at the time, Acme did not properly take criticism and complained about their comments
- Odin countered back and slammed Acme with a paragraph-long comment posted on the MP811 page
- However, Odin’s actions were condemned by many people, including Acme's other main critic, Daniel, for being too critical and insensitive
- In the aftermath, the comment thread that included Odin’s paragraph were deleted by Daniel, and Acme’s contributions have stopped
- However, three years later, a user named UnfogetableLuncheon expressed regret at the situation and admitted to being very immature
- Odin would later become subject to controversy once again, as Ethan Scotts posted an image on the wiki of Odin supposedly committing stolen valor on Flickr
The Deim Crisis
- On September 29, 2016, under suspicion that he was drunk, Deim became responsible for what would be known as the Deim Crisis during a regular Skype chat with TheGeneralB (Brian), Deim, and Steaming TOM (Evan)
- Deim's behavior was noticeably more arrogant than normal and threatened to ban anyone on the wiki
- Deim would then go on to permanently block Evan’s account, although Daniel Phoenix and Kyle Layton managed to get his account back safely
- He also gave everyone who has ever appeared on the wiki bureaucratic status, and engaged in a pointless war of taking away and giving back other people’s admin rights, particularly Daniel’s
- After a request for help by Daniel, Wikia Staff member Kirkburn deleted everyone’s bureaucratic rights except for Daniel, Kyle, UV00, and Rick, as well as placing a ban on Deim across all of Wikia effective until December 2016 / January 2017, effectively ending the crisis
- His actions were deeply condemned and have led to everyone being worried about what may happen to the wiki during that time
- Deim fully acknowledged the fact that he was being reckless, and apologized for his behavior that day and claimed he would focus on DeimTec from then on
The Temporary Fall of PMG
- On October 1, 2016, TheGeneralB (Brian) discovered that the Pimp My Gun website was down and feared it may be down completely
- Brian notified Daniel, Evan, Rick, and later Deim on Skype about the situation, which sent a panic to all of them
- Brian emailed Doctor Noob, the creator of PMG, about the issue but received no reply
- The crisis would last for about an hour, until PMG was discovered to be back up
- The cause of this event is unknown, although Daniel believes that the cause was due to Doctor Noob not paying for the domain to still have the website running
- Nevertheless, it created an emergency during that hour, as alternative gun-making websites were considered, although none were found
Odin’s Redemption
- On October 16, 2016, in the wake of the Acme comment and potential stolen valor, Carbon98 (Odin) made several new announcements as part of a comment left on his message wall
- Odin announced that the stolen valor picture was not true and that he actually did serve in the United States Marine Corps, and recently left in order to help his engagement
- He also revealed that his real name was Eoin Ashe, and announced that his fiancée gave birth to a baby girl named Juliet, and became a father
- His statements have been praised by the wiki and apologies have been made for the stolen valor claims
- Odin's announcements weren't without detractors, however, as Deim doubted over whether or not all his statements are actually true
The Temperament of Kyle Layton
- During late 2016 and early 2017, Kyle Layton has had a noticeable change in his temperament during normal Skype chats
- On January 13, 2017, he reportedly said that he had sexual relations with someone that may have been under the legal consensual age
- Deim, who was in the chat at the time, made a joke about the act by calling him a pedophile, which enraged Kyle
- He then began firing back at Deim, and began arguing about if the action was even a legal act under consensual age
- Shortly after, Kyle left the Skype chat and messaged the creator of the PMG Skype chat, Rick, that he will leave the wiki permanently if Deim does not get kicked
- Although he was angry about the situation, he began to act normal the next day
- After the situation was investigated by Daniel and Rick, the two came to a verdict by saying “no one will be kicked, and nobody will be rejected because somebody hurt your feelings”
- Despite the fact that he seemed to have calmed down the next day, he began acting up again two days later by being extremely ignorant to both Brian and Evan
- He later said that he put the blame on his parents getting a divorce and that he broke up with his girlfriend
Chapter 5: The Decline of the Daniel Phoenix era (2017 - present; interlaced with the Daniel Phoenix Era)
The Beginning of the Decline
- Starting in January 2017, the wiki experienced a notable drop in new users and activities
- Users such as Deim, Rick, and Brian began to slow their activities on the wiki
- Despite the wiki slowing down, new users have appeared on the wiki in their hiatus, such as Alvarez998 and AllOfTheWrongs
Rick's Retirement
- In June 2017, Rick announced that he would be retiring from the wiki semi-permanently
- He claimed that inactivity is the main reason why he would be retiring
- However, he did also state that he won't retire completely, as he will occasionally make a visit to the wiki, but will not be as active as he was formerly
- His retirement post has received many comments hoping that Rick will lead a good future and hopes to come back
Renewed Violence
- In August 2017, the wiki experienced another violent stage, this time on a new user
- Zaktheman06, a new user on the wiki, posted the EMG-41, a break-action rifle that fires a heavy round
- However, its questionable quality and overall usability has garnered controversy, and resulted in strict criticism by FrostRC and Alvarez998
- FrostRC posted comments that heavily criticized its functionality with Alvarez supporting his statements
- Fortunately, unlike Acme, Zaktheman did not respond back negatively
- The overwhelming amount of criticism given to the new user led Kyle to establish a new rule on the wiki stating that bullying, heavily criticizing, or making fun of a page made by a person who doesn’t have very much knowledge of weapons is now illegal
- If a user decides to leave a comment, then the comment will only feature tips and/or constructive criticism
- UV00 questioned the wiki users' politeness and therefore condemned the actions, fully supporting Kyle’s actions
- Alvarez apologized for his actions, although FrostRC has defended his actions when asked by Brian, claiming that he criticized Zaktheman before the new rule was applied
Mystery Wiki User Controversy
- In May 2018, an anonymous Wikia user began commenting on many pages on the wiki, regardless of the date they were created, by trying to give realism to the creations on the page as well as roasting creators with cryptic comments
- Initially, most users were not angered by these comments, but the rapid continuation of spam comments led all of the wiki’s users began to accuse the user of trolling, and in addition, he often failed at his roasts and was often proved wrong
- Some advocated for a permanent ban on the general location of the anonymous user; according to the user’s IP address, the anonymous user was located in the Philippines
- On June 20th, 2018, Daniel responded to the sudden influx of comments by banning anonymous comments, but the anonymous user began making profiles and continued his activities beginning on July 18, 2018, with the first of four profiles: Ariel Arnaldo
- After the first profile was blocked, the user later created the accounts Blunderball2000, Wildbluebrony, and Imdbfan
- In response to the continuation of the spam comments, Daniel banned Blunderball2000 and gave Brian administrator rights to decide his fate and due to his activeness
- All of his comments were finally deleted by October 2019 by Brian
Proposed Merger with Flickr PMG
- On June 9, 2018, 66mazda proposed in the Flickr PMG Discord chat that the two communities merge together
- Chexmexica, a member of FPMG, was rather enthusiastic about the merge
- Before the proposed merger, many users of the wikia joined Flickr, including Frost, Alvarez, Evan, UV00, and Ethan, along with newer users KristiansenArms, with most of them blending well to the FPMG community
- The FPMG group have taken Alvarez as their potential favorite due to his sheer amount of skill, followed by Zane and UV00
- SJCommander, a veteran and an admin of the FPMG, expressed his support for the idea mainly to improve the skills of PMG wikia users
- Alvarez expressed his hopes that the FPMG group will spur wiki users to post better quality content through criticism, which has already worked with some wiki members
- On July 21, 2018, Brian agreed to Vincent’s recommendation that he should join the FPMG group and uploaded a sample of his creations over on the PMG Wiki, as well as joining the FPMG Discord server
- However, the lead admin, Daniel has not commented on the potential merge as of mid-July 2018
- It was also revealed that the FPMG has also gone through a similar decline, with many members having diminishing activity due to personal reasons
The Last Weapon Competition
- In September 2020, wiki user AutoG announced a new weapon competition similar to the Ukrainian service rifle competition in 2014
- AutoG's nation, Greater Saint-Paul (of The Cohorse Union), submitted a request for a new service rifle
- Originally meant to cover most categories of weapons, only the sniper rifle category was competed on
- Like all competitions, the winner was declared by popular vote
- The winning submission was ScorpionAI's FAC MK.II.8-7.62x54R, praised by AutoG himself for its beauty
Confirmation of the Decline
- By 2019, the wiki had experienced inactivity levels not seen since the end of the Reverend era
- Lead administrator Daniel Phoenix had not created a new creation since the Mauser G6, which was originally posted on September 2018, although he did continue to comment on other posts
- Brian continued to post creations until 2021, which by then he had stopped
- By 2021, all of the major wiki users had retreated to the wiki’s Discord server or had left entirely, although some users still contribute regularly
- ScorpionAI still posts new weapons on a relatively frequent basis, and new users have joined since
- The discontinuation of Adobe Flash, which PMG uses, may have also caused the wiki’s second major decline
