History[]
The MK.II.8-7.62x54R is a rechambered version of the 7.62x51 NATO version already in production by FAC. As the Cohorse Union announced their competition to rearm their armies, FAC wanted to be part of this competition and therefore rechambered one of their best military precision rifles.
Technical Details[]
The MK.II.8-7.62x54R is build of a mixture of materials, containing aluminum, steel, high strength polymer and carbon. To lighten the system, the lower receiver, magazines, grips and stock were made out of high strength polymer. The upper receiver, the buffer tube, as well as the front rail system were machined out of aluminum. For durability, most of the internals, as barrel, trunnion, bolt, extractor, hammer, recoil spring and gas system, were made from different steels.
As its 7.62x52 NATO brother, the 7.62x54R is a short stroke gas piston system based on the AR-10. It is equipped with a match grade precision trigger, a 4-16x50 scope and a cold forged, fluted 20" barrel. The long, bird cage style compensator also enhances precision and with the stable carbon bipod, as well as the enhanced pistol grip, the overall accuracy of the system is outstanding for a semi auto system in 7.62x54R.
Due to the use of lightweight materials, it was possible to bring the overall weight of this 38" (with stock collapsed) system to only 5.5kg fully loaded and equipped. FAC also offers several other version, to create a whole family around this weapon system, as it was done for the MK.II-8.308. There will also be a DMR version, a night ops version and a shorter barrel urban tactical version.
To enhance it's tactical flexibility, the handguard offers the operator picatinny rails, as well as the newer keymod system.
