The CAR-16 SAW was designed around 2005 by E. Sonnedecker and the CGI Company attempt to replace the M249 SAW and the ageing Type 76 LMG. The CAR-16 SAW finished its proto type stages around 2011 and is being tested out by various government and law enforcement.
The CAR-16 SAW uses the direct impingement gas operation from the AR-15/M-16/M4 system. It shoots the 5.56x45mm NATO and rate of fire is around 800-1000 RPM.
